Spunky Genetics
The spunky genome is very complex, and spunky scientists are just now beginning to understand it! Here you can read about some of the amazing discoveries that have been made about the genome!

genes responsible for coat color modifications:
Dd = dark phase genes, Mm = Dalmatian genes, Ii = pale phase genes, Nn = Dalmatian ignores coat color genes, Kk = dark phase ignores coat color, Bb = brown-spot / white-spot genes: secondary coat color ignores R gene, Ff = pastel spot gene: brown-spot gene ignores coat color
dark phase is recessive and affects L, P, and R genes; also affects G gene when K gene is present; causes secondary coat color to become the primary coat color, and the primary coat color to be deeper, e.g. P+P+P+P+d+d will show magenta with pink spots versus pink with white spots
Dalmatian gene is recessive and affects G gene; also affects L, P, and R genes when N gene is present; causes weight of coloring to be reversed with the spots a darker version of the dark phase color, e.g. G+G+G+G+m+m will show white with black spots versus gray with white spots
pale phase gene is recessive
brown-spot / white-spot gene is recessive and affects R gene; causes secondary coat color to be white instead of light brown, e.g. R+R+R+R+b+b will show brown with white spots
pastel spot gene is recessive and affects L, P, and G genes; it has no affect on the R gene; causes secondary coat color to be pastel primary coat color, as in the brown spunky with light brown spots
nota bene:
the secondary coat color of a brown spunky who does not display the phenotype for both recessive white-spot genes will have light brown spots
genes responsible for nose color:
Oo = warm nose color / cool nose color gene, Qq = dark nose color gene
nose color gene is recessive and causes the nose color to show medium gray instead of brown, or brown instead of medium gray
dark nose color gene is recessive and affects L and P genes, and LR, LP, and RP phenotypes; it has no affect on the R or G gene; causes the nose color to show medium shade of coat color instead of brown, e.g. L+L+L+L+q+q will show blue coat with medium blue nose
nota bene:
the nose color of a gray spunky who does not display the phenotype for Dalmatian gene or dark phase gene will have a medium gray nose instead of a dark brown one
genes responsible for body proportions:
Tt = long-neck gene, Hh = long-leg gene, Ww = long-body gene, Yy = long-tail gene, Ee = flying spunky gene
long-neck gene is recessive; t+t+t+t needed for long neck to be present
long-leg gene is recessive; h+h+h+h needed for long legs to be present
long-body gene is recessive; w+w+w+w needed for long body to be present
long-tail gene is recessive; y+y+y+y needed for long tail to be present
flying spunky gene is recessive; e+e+e+e needed for patagium to be present

coat color modification genes: AA (two slots)
nose color genes: AA (two slots)
